Norman P. McDiffitt

Norman P. McDiffitt, 86, of Rayland, OH, passed away peacefully Sunday June 11, 2017 in his home.

He was born November 27, 1930 in Pine Grove, WV, a son of the late Forest J. and Lillian (Henthorne) McDiffitt. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Forest and Cecil McDiffitt; and three sisters, Doris J. Tuttle, Maxine Dobrin and Sandra Sue Phillips.

Norman worked for Columbia Gas, retiring after 32 years of service. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954-1962. Norman was an avid hunter; and enjoyed camping and fishing in his younger days. He also liked gardens and taking care of kids and his family.

Surviving are his wife, Helen (Parlier) McDiffitt, whom he married January 3, 1952; six children, Dinah (Sam) Keyser of East Springfield, OH, Jodette (Jack) Gallagher of Marion, IL, Brenda (Terry) Burwell of Canton, OH, Jeff (Tami) McDiffitt of Green, OH, Chris McDiffitt of Rayland, OH and Kevin (Shara) McDiffitt of Columbus, OH; two brothers, Charles (Carolyn) McDiffitt of Atkins, SC and Gary (Nora) McDiffitt of Pine Grove, WV; two sisters, Mary Louise Pegg and Joyce Ann (Bob) Cain, both of Glenville, WV; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant, on Thursday from 1-3 p.m., there will be military honors by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad at 3 p.m. There will also be viewing from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Family will receive guests at the Brilliant American Legion 3:30-5:30 for beverages and food. Norman Keyser to deliver blessing.
