Theodore J. 'Ted' Matthews, Sr.

Theodore J. “Ted” Matthews, Sr., 89, of Brilliant, Ohio, passed away Thursday November 9, 2017 in the emergency room at Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, OH.

He was born March 19, 1928 in Brilliant, OH, the son of the late E. Stanton “Red” and Jemima (Mackender) Matthews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Lee (Fisher) Matthews on July 10, 2014; a son, Theodore J. “Teddy” Matthews, Jr.; and a sister, Mildred Briggs.

Ted was the owner of the former Matthews Chevrolet which is now Matthews Motors from 1950 until the time of his retirement in 2014. He was a member of the Brilliant Christian Church and enjoyed fishing and traveling all over.

Surviving are a son, Joe (Diane) Matthews; a daughter, Cindy Martin; a daughter-in-law, Merri Matthews, all of Brilliant, OH; six grandchildren, Kelly (Glenn) Mills, Jennifer (Scotte) Elliott, Joseph (Jessica) Matthews, T.J. (Katy) Matthews, Chase Matthews and Evan (Mary Kate) Matthews; thirteen great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Richard Maruca of Wheeling, WV; several nieces and nephews; and his furry companion, Dixie.

Friends will be received on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant, where services will be held on
Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Marc R. Tinstman, Minister, officiating. Interment will follow at New Alexandria Cemetery.
