Norman S. “Norm” Potenzina, 74, of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away on Tuesday December 5, 2017 in the emergency room at Weirton Medical Center.
He was born May 3, 1943 in Mingo Junction, OH, a son of the late Joseph and Sophie (Dobrinski) Potenzina. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Lida M. “Pudge” (Metcalf) Potenzina on June 2, 2015; and a sister, Becky Potenzina.
Norm retired in 1999 from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corp where he was a welder. He served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. Norm was a member of the Steubenville American Legion Post 33; Steubenville P.A.C.; and the Weirton Moose Lodge.
Surviving are three children, Valarie Potenzina-Cotton of Clarksburg, WV, Penny (Ron) Johns of Summerville, SC and Fred (Beth) Schmitt of Dallas, TX; a sister, Rosemary (Donald) Aspery of Cleveland, OH; and four grandchildren, Cecilia and Gracie Cotton and Kyle and Kayla Johns.
Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 and also on Saturday from Noon until the time of his funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Fr. James M. Dunfee, officiating. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Mingo Junction, OH, with Military Honors by the Ohio Valley Veterans Squad.
