Stephen F. “Bambi” Hughes, 77, of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away unexpectedly Friday October 21, 2022, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.
He was born July 28, 1945 in Ripley, WV. He was preceded in death by his father, C.J. Hughes; his mother, Dessie E. (Pantell) Hughes Foldi; his step-father, George C. Foldi, Sr.; a son-in-law, Greg Stillwell; three brothers, George C. Foldi, Jr., Lusion Hughes and Ray Hughes; and three sisters, Alva Mae Kidder, Jackie Laughlin and Sherry Lynn Wongsong.
Steve worked for 18 years out of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #490; then he was a nuclear boiler inspector for the State of Ohio retiring in 2010. He was a member of Kolmont Community Church where he was the treasurer. He was also a 50-year member of the Steubenville Masonic Lodge #45 F & AM; a member of Bodies of York Rite; a member of Ohio Valley Mopar where he served as treasurer; and a member of PERS. Over the years he was an officer and member of various unions and organizations in the area.
Surviving are his wife, Sheryl (Jenkins) Hughes whom he married August 28, 1965; a daughter, Melissa Hughes-Stillwell of Mingo Junction, OH; a son, Stephen R. Hughes and his wife Shannon Minch-Hughes of Mingo Junction, OH; a sister, Barbara (Kenney) Schilling of Mingo Junction, OH; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. and also on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of his funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Herb Fletcher, officiating. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Steubenville, OH.
There will be a masonic service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
