Opal L. Kleineke, 92, of Wintersville, Ohio, passed away Sunday July 30, at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH.
She was born March 28, 1931, in Quaker City, OH, a daughter of the Late Oscar F. & Alice Mae (Galloway) Bunfill. In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by three husbands, Charles W. Mellott, in 1984, Chester E. Conn, in 1997, and Henry R. Kleineke, in 2009; two brothers, Robert Rufner and an infant; two sisters, Janice Leach and Marjorie Pfalzgraf; and two great-grandchildren.
Opal was a Sales Clerk, starting her career at The Hub Department Store, and retiring from Kaufmann’s. She was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star, joining the Labelle Chapter #414 in 1978 and holding many offices over the years and through its merger with the Unionport Chapter #360; she was also a faithful member of the OEA Social Order of Beauceant. She also held memberships at The Harmony Church of Mingo Junction; The Jefferson County Historical Society; The Daughters of the American Revolution; and in local genealogical groups.
Opal’s legacy is her family, and left to cherish her memory are three sons, Charles (Jeannine) Mellott, Terry (Carol) Mellott, and Rick Mellott; four daughters, Beverly (deceased husband Bill) Thompson, Cathy Mellott, Diane Doan, and Sandy (Dennis) Reynolds; one brother, Larry Bunfill; one sister, Shirley Smith; twenty-five grandchildren, forty-seven great-grandchildren, and seventeen great-great grandchildren.
Friends received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant, OH, on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and also on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of her funeral service at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Sam Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee, WV. The Eastern Star ladies will conduct a Memorial Service on Friday at 7:00 in the funeral home.
