Nora Jean (Kell) Huggins

Nora Jean (Kell) Huggins, 87, of Wintersville, OH, formerly of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away Saturday September 16, 2023 at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH.

She was born August 22, 1936 in Steubenville, OH, a daughter of the late Matthew and Edna (Embleton) Kell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry M. Huggins on August 8, 2011; and four siblings, Douglas Kell, Joseph Kell, Matthew “Junior” Kell and Esther Van Dyke.

Nora was a retired piano teacher and taught hundreds of students over her 65 years of teaching. She graduated from Steubenville High School in 1954 and attended Ashbury College in Kentucky, majoring in music ministry. Nora grew up attending Finley Methodist Church in Steubenville. She was one of the founding board members of the former Raynes Methodist Church and served as the music director, directing many choir cantatas. After the closing of Raynes church, she became a member of Kolmont Community Church where she remained dedicated to music ministry. Nora and her husband retired to Florida where she continued teaching piano and playing the piano for the South Venice Christian Church, until she moved back to the Ohio Valley to live with her daughter Cherie four years ago. Nora was a born-again Christian who was faithful to the Lord’s call to music ministry.

She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl “Cherie” (the late David) Metcalf of Wintersville, OH; a son, Matthew “Dan” (Christina) Huggins of Steubenville, OH; seven grandchildren, David Metcalf, Jr., Janet “Janny” (James) Johnson, Robin (Stanley Zachery “Zach”) Zgurski, Erin (Enrique “Henry”) Arroyo, Amy (Michael) Culp, Stacey (Jason) Pinkerton and Daphne (Matthew) Middaugh; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Mingo on Saturday September 30th at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Gary LeMasters, officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed in Nora’s memory to Finley Church, 958 Lincoln Ave., Steubenville, OH 43952.
