Mary Gail Calhoun Wood Monroe

Mary Gail Calhoun Wood Monroe, 82, of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away suddenly and peacefully Friday, September 18, 2020 at the home of her son Jim in Pleasantville, OH.

She was born September 3, 1938 in Steubenville, OH, a daughter of the late Earl E. and Mary A. (Kovolan) Calhoun. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James O. “Bud” Wood; her second husband, John Monroe, Sr.; and a daughter, Elizabeth “Betty” Millick.

Mary Gail was a homemaker and attended New Alexandria United Methodist Church. She was a very active member of the Labelle Chapter 414 of Order of Eastern Star. She was also a member of Unionport Chapter 360 Order of Eastern Star; Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, Inc and Social Order of the Beauceant Assembly No. 71 in East Liverpool, OH.

Surviving are a son, James E. (Anna) Wood, Sr. of Pleasantville, OH; a brother, John Calhoun of Wintersville, OH; four grandchildren, James (Dawn) Wood, Jr., Beth Anne (Kenny) Eyer, Matthew Wood and his fiancé Corinne Harris and Sarah (Brett) Butler; two great-granddaughters, Kinley and Emily; and very special friends, Lou Ann Craven and Raymond and Reretta Long.

Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St. Brilliant, OH on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Eastern Star services will be held at 1:00 p.m. and her funeral service will follow with Pastor Jimm Woods, officiating. Private interment at New Alexandria Cemetery.
