Karen Lee “Flash” Edwards, 75, of Mingo Junction, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Sunday April 25, 2021 at the Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville, OH.

She was born November 25, 1945 in Wheeling, WV, a daughter of the late William H. and Dorothy M. (Matthews) Edwards, Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William H. “Squeeks” Edwards, Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Bernard Sternsher.

Karen received her Bachelors Degree from Mt. Union College and her Master Degree from Mary Grove College. Karen was an elementary school teacher for the Indian Creek School District, retiring in 2008 and she is currently still substitute teaching. During her teaching career she was in charge of the student senate; created a school newspaper “Hills Character Gazette”; and was also the head of character education at the school, and  this was very important to her as it was her way of segmenting church into school.

Flash was a former member of the Two Ridges Presbyterian Church in Wintersville for 38 years, during that time she sang in the choir, was in charge of puppetry, head of youth group and served as a Sunday school teacher. Karen was a former member of the Cove Presbyterian Church in Weirton, WV. She is currently a member at First Westminster Presbyterian Church in Steubenville.  Karen studied to be a Lay Pastor and is a member of the Presbyterian Women. She is a member of the Upper Ohio Valley Presbytery, where she served as Moderator in 2007 and served on many ministries and committees and contributed many articles to the connector 

Karen enjoyed taking photos, which is how she got her nickname “Flash”. She also traveled to Africa on a mission trip in September of 2012, and enjoyed working in her flower gardens 

Surviving are a sister, Carol Sternsher of Wilmington, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Barbara Edwards of Mingo; a niece, Dawn Renee Edwards of Mingo; two nephews, Daniel (Judith Lowry) Sternsher of Clarksville, Ohio and Dr. David Sternsher of Phoenix, AZ; a great-nephew, Jacob Edwards of Mingo; a great-niece, Randi Sternsher of Beaver Creek, OH; and her beloved cats, Mitzy, Luna and Nice Nice.  

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday May 8th at 10:00 a.m. at First Westminster Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Jason Elliott, officiating.  Private interment at New Alexandria Cemetery in Mingo. Masks are absolutely required at the church.

Memorial contributions may be directed in Karen’s memory to the First Westminster Presbyterian Church, 235 N. 4th St., Steubenville, OH 43952.
