John W. McClelland

John W. McClelland, 88, of Mingo Junction, Ohio, left us to pass through the veil at the end of life's journey and walk with God. Today we lost a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather, on September 22, 2022.

He leaves behind his beloved wife Shirley; children Darlene and Richard; grandsons David, Dustin, (Andrea) granddaughter by marriage; one granddaughter Ruthie Ann and her fiancé Derreck; six great-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, Maybelle; one great-great grandson; nephew Jerry; and niece Angie.

John was born June 30, 1934 in Steubenville, OH to Perry and Annie (Collins) McClelland, and spent most of his life in Steubenvile. He worked for the Ohio Valley Gas Company over a 40-year career. He married Shirley Bittinger in 1954 and they enjoyed each other's company for 68 years before leaving for that long walk we cannot take with him.

John lived a full life, full of activity and happiness. In times past, camping was a valued time away from home, with the entire family participating. Trips to North Carolina, New York, and Ohio were common. John was always a builder, fixing and changing his home and helping Richard with car repairs. He attended Rosemont Chapel for many years, helping to grow and maintain the church. John lived to see and enjoy time with a great-granddaughter – a blessing for both of them.

Go in peace, John, and with a world full of love. Your presence in our lives and the time you spent with us was a gift beyond measure.

Friends will be received to celebrate John’s life on Tuesday September 27th at Rosemont Chapel, 23 Williams Blvd., Steubenville, OH from 5:00 p.m. until the time of his memorial service at 6:00 p.m., with Pastor Ray Cooper, officiating. Private burial at Fort Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville, OH.
