Jack R. Vardzel

Jack R. Vardzel, age 7, of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away suddenly Monday January 26, 2026 in the emergency room at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH, after a courageous battle with multiple health issues.

Though his time on earth was brief, Jack was deeply loved by all who knew him. A sweet and cherished boy, he touched countless hearts despite being unable to walk or speak. He was the center of his family’s world and showed extraordinary strength and bravery, enduring 26 brain surgeries before the age of two. Though he spent many days in the hospital, it was at home—surrounded by love—where he truly belonged.

He was born March 4, 2018, in Pittsburgh, PA. He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandfather, Kenny Kourim, Sr.

He is survived by his parents, Brandon Vardzel and Chelsey Fish of Mingo Junction, OH; a sister, Kyleigh Haines of Mingo Junction, OH; a brother, Owen Vardzel of Mingo Junction, OH; paternal grandparents, Greg and Barb Vardzel of Pittsburgh, PA; maternal grandparents, Harold (Kathy) Fish of Bloomingdale, OH and Terry Kourim of Wintersville, OH; his maternal great-grandmother, Carol Kourim of Smithfield, OH; a few aunts and uncles; and several cousins.
