Gary R. Fellows

Gary R. Fellows, 68, of Brilliant, OH, passed away Monday April 26, 2021 at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH.

He was born January 6, 1953 in Wheeling, WV, a son of the late Charles and Donna (Dean) Fellows. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Guzzie.

Gary retired in 2020 from Finley Fire Equipment where he was a Sales Rep. and he was a member of the Crossroads Christian Church.

Gary was a loving husband, father, grandfather and mentor to many. His love for the fire service led him to be compassionate fire fighter, instructor and mentor.  He dedicated over 50 years to the community by serving as a member of both the New Alexandria and Brilliant Fire Department. Over the years he has served every office, including fire chief, became an instructor and continued to dedicate his time to the fire service. He never stopped learning and giving to others. In 2017 he received the Ohio Fire Educator Lifetime Achievement Award.  

Surviving are his wife, Valerie (Alatis) Fellows, whom he married on August 20, 1975; a son, RC (Stephanie) Fellows of Galloway, OH; a daughter, Jessica (Joe) Porter of Bloomingdale, OH; a brother, Dean (Vickie) Fellows of New Alexandria, OH; a sister, Debby (Kenny Kourim, Jr.) Fellows of Brilliant, OH; four grandchildren, Annabelle and Elizabeth Fellows and Isaac and Conner Morris; and his loving puppy Brutus.

Friends will be received at the Brilliant Fire Department, 1001 Third St., Brilliant, OH, on Wednesday from 12-4 and 6-8 p.m. and also on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of his funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Greco, officiating. Interment will follow at New Alexandria Cemetery. Masks are required at the fire department.

There will be a Fire Department service on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be directed in Gary’s memory to the Brilliant Fire Department.
