Elizabeth "Betty" Hopkins

Elizabeth “Betty” Hopkins, 91, of Brilliant, OH, passed away Monday, December 7, 2020 at the Carriage Inn of Steubenville.

She was born July 23, 1929 in Smithfield, OH, a daughter of the late David O. Thompson, Sr. and Mary Bell (Craig) Thompson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, David, Jr., Lowell “Bud”, Charles “Chuck”, Victor and Edward Thompson; and two sisters, Pat Summerville and Jessie Lee Hicks.

Betty worked at the former Reynolds Nursing Home in Adena for 15 years and she also worked for Steubenville City Schools in the Cafeteria for 8 years. She was a member of the Steel Valley Baptist Church.

Surviving are four children, Ronald (Kathy) Cassidy, Sr. of Smithfield, OH, Larry (Darlene) Cassidy of Washington, PA, Rose (Gene) Wilson of Adena, OH and Beverly (David) Moore of Empire, OH; a brother, Jerry (Donna) Thompson of Georgia; a sister, Mary Paice of Wintersville, OH; twelve grandchildren, Brandy (Brad) Martin, Misty Cassidy, Veronica (the late Mike) Barone, Janelle (Paul) O’Dell, Ronald (Melissa) Cassidy, Jr., Jeffrey Scott (Jennifer) Cassidy, Brian Fisher, Wayne Wilson, David Wilson, Nickie Young and her fiancé Tom Mason, Bobbie-Jo (David) Kampss and Daniel (Sarah) Ross; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

In following with Betty’s wishes services are private. She will be buried privately at New Alexandria Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Wheeler Funeral Homes.
