Duane L. Welsch, 82, of Richmond, OH, formerly of Brilliant, OH passed away Tuesday May 3, 2022 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.
He was born January 3, 1940 in Steubenville, OH, a son of the late Chalmer and Frances (Porter) Welsch. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred Welsch.
Duane retired from Weirton Steel Corp where he worked for 34 years in the Sheet Mill. He graduated from Brilliant Memorial High School in 1957 and received his associates degree at the former Jeff Tech in 1986. Duane proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965 in Augsburg, Germany as a radio operator. He delivered the Steubenville Herald Star from age 11 to 17 (1951-1957) and became an honorary carrier. Duane was a toy train enthusiast with several train layouts and he enjoyed lawn work and gardening. He was Protestant by Faith.
Surviving are his wife, Carlene (George) Welsch, whom he married on August 12, 1989; a daughter, Dawn Welsch of Salem, OH; two grandsons, Zach Altman and Braedon Altman; a step-daughter, Laurie (Bill) Martt of Yellow Springs, OH; a step-son, George (Denise) Twaddle of Marysville, OH; two step-grandsons, Jeff (Corina) Martt and Kevin Martt; a step-granddaughter, Anne Marie Twaddle; two step-great-grandsons, Ellis Martt and Lewis Martt; and a sister, Karen (Dave) Pack of Lenexa, KS
In following with Duane’s wishes private family graveside services will be held at Bergholz Cemetery with Pastor Jason Elliott officiating. Military honors by the Amsterdam VFW.
