Donald L. "Don" Roe

Donald L. “Don” Roe, 77, of New Alexandria, OH, passed away peacefully Friday July 26, 2024 at home.

He was born July 15, 1947, in Smithfield, OH a son of the late Edward E. and Rose Anna (Baricska) Roe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Verna Reynard and LaVerne Risdon; and an infant brother, David Allen Roe.

Don retired in 2010 from AEP Cardinal Plant where he was a mechanic. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of the Word of Life Fellowship in Steubenville, OH, the Brilliant American Legion Post 573, the Buckeye Ruritan Club in New Alexandria, Relay for Life “Stepping for Sisters” at Indian Creek, the Smithfield Historical Society and he was a manager at the Smithfield Food Pantry.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Lula Mae “Lu” (Tucker) Roe, whom he married October 19, 1977; four children, Christine Moses of Gainesville, VA, Sheri (Robert) Butrey of Avon, OH, Robert E. Moses of New Alexandria, OH and Rebecca Moses of Gainesville, VA; three brothers, Joe (Mary) Roe of Bloomingdale, OH, Gary Roe of Cadiz, OH and Rodney (Charla) Roe of Brilliant, OH; two sisters, Sharlene (Bob) Wade of New Alexandria, OH and Sandy Heath of Brilliant, OH; nine grandchildren, Joshua Butrey, Peyton Butrey, Alex Rose, Eric Moses, Nathanial, Bethany, Megan, Jessalyn and Zachary Tepley; and one great-grandchild.

Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home 712 Third St., Brilliant, OH, on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of his funeral service at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. David Shores, officiating and military honors by the Brilliant American Legion Post 573.
