Clifford W. Nicholson, 73, of New Alexandria, Ohio passed peacefully in his sleep to Heaven on Thursday, August 12, 2021, in the Valley Hospice Care Center North, Steubenville, OH.
He was born on September 13, 1947 to the late Billy W. and Betty J. (Bickerstaff) Nicholson.
Cliff was a retired equipment operator at the Weirton Ice and Coal Company taking pride to load and unload barges, trains, and trucks for Starvaggi Industries. Popular with drivers for his attention and care for their own rigs, he would always respectfully say he did the best job he could because ‘it was right’ and ‘that’s the way Mike (Starvaggi) and Don (Donell) deserve it to be’. Cliff greatly respected each of them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his older sister Carole Sue (Charles) VanKirk and younger siblings William Andrew (Donna) Nicholson and Mary Jane Brown.
He is survived by his former wife, Sharron, his sons, Clifford (Jennifer) Nicholson II of Bush, LA, Justin Nicholson, and Jonathan Nicholson both of New Alexandria, OH, as well as nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
Consistent with Cliff’s wishes, his remains will be cremated with a private family gathering to follow at a later date. The family wishes to recognize and express deep gratitude to Cliff’s former wife, Sharron, our mother, for her selfless and loving care and support to him throughout and to his last breaths. In lieu of flowers or donations, we wish you to share the same love with your father that we have for ours.
Arrangements are under the care of Wheeler Funeral Home, Brilliant, Ohio.
