Charles A. “Charlie” Bane, 79, of Brilliant, OH, passed away Friday October 29, 2021 at the Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville, OH.
He was born November 26, 1941 in Brilliant, OH, a son of the late Ernest A. and Mary Frances (Steen) Bane. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman and Ernest “Sonny” Bane.
Charlie was retired from GTE/Verizon where he was a central office repairman. He served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was a member and former trustee of the Brilliant American Legion Post 573. He was also a member of the Brilliant Presbyterian Church, the Brilliant Lions Club and the Smithfield Masonic Lodge #182. Charlie enjoyed bringing cheer to the young and old during the holiday season by playing Santa Clause. He enjoyed cheering for the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns.
He is survived by his wife, Carrol (Retzer) Bane, whom he married December 21, 1963; three daughters, Rebecca L. Tester of Brilliant, OH, Barbara Scott of Omaha, NE and Bethany E. Bane of Brilliant, OH; two sisters, Barbara Green of Brilliant, OH and Jane (Edwin) Hood of Steubenville, OH; seven grandchildren, Chadd (Amanda) Tester, Chase Tester, Joshua Tester, and Jacee (Kody) Grimes, Caleb (Joni) Scott, Holly Tester and Darren Scott; and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 1-3 and 5-7 at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant where his funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bill Fulton, officiating. On Sunday there will be a Lions Club Service at 6:30 p.m. and Military Honors by the Brilliant American Legion at 7:00 p.m. Private inurnment at Holly Memorial Gardens. MASKS ARE RECOMMENDED AT THE FUNERAL HOME.
