Barbara Rae (Beatty) Edwards, 78, of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away Thursday November 4, 2021 at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH.
Barbara was born March 13, 1943 at the former Gill Hospital in Steubenville, OH, a daughter of the late Earl and Julia (Welch) Beatty of Wellsburg, WV. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, William “Squeeks” Edwards; a sister, Carole Beatty Pittman; and a sister-in-law, Karen Edwards.
Barbara was a proud 1961 graduate of Wellsburg High School. She was a 1964 graduate of the Ohio Valley School of Nursing in Wheeling, WV. She worked part time at Weirton Hospital and the former Ohio Valley Hospital in Steubenville.
In 1974, she stopped nursing to help her husband take care of the family farm. One would have thought Barbara always lived on a farm. She helped bale hay, string barbwire fence, walked the farm 3x a week to look for openings in the fence and canned a lot of tomatoes, green beans in addition to making dill and bread and butter pickles.
Barbara and Squeeks also spent many years on the Ohio River boating. The were members of the Brilliant Boat Club. They hosted many family gatherings at the boat club and enjoyed taking family and friends for boat rides up and down the river. They also enjoyed dancing, especially square dancing, and working jigsaw puzzles in the winter months.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Dawn Edwards and grandson, Jacob Edwards, both of Mingo Junction, OH; a brother, Ron Beatty of Wellsburg, WV; a sister-in-law, Carol Sternsher of Wilmington, OH; several nieces and nephews; and her cat, Lily.
Barb will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandma, and sister. She was a hardworking woman who was by her husbands side regardless of what he was doing. She always put her family first.
Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant, OH on Monday from 2-8 p.m. and also on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of her funeral services at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. John Ater, officiating. MASKS ARE REQUIRED. Interment will follow at New Alexandria Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed in Barb’s memory to the Jefferson County Humane Society, P.O. Box 233, Steubenville, OH 43952 -- https://jeffersoncountyhumanesociety.net/donate/ or the American Lung Association at lung.org.
