Thomas J. "Tom" Matello, 71, of Steubenville, OH, passed away Friday March 31, 2023 at Southeastern Medical Center in Cambridge, OH, following a motor vehicle accident.

Tom was born on September 15, 1951 in Avella, PA, a son of the late John L. "Magpie" and Josephine (Ezarik) Matello, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet "Bunny" (Hays) Matello; and a brother, Joseph "Smo" Matello.

Tom was retired from the Sammis Power Plant where he was a contractor. He served his country in the U.S. Navy; was Catholic by Faith; and enjoyed woodworking.

Surviving are a son, Nick (Mandy) Matello of Deltona, FL; a daughter, Katie (Tommy) Pierson of Mingo Junction, OH; four brothers, John L. (Barb) Matello, Jr. of Wintersville, OH, Matthew Matello and his companion Sandy Williams of Bloomingdale, OH, Larry Matello of Villa Rica, GA and Chris (Becky) Matello of Woodstock, GA; four sisters, Barbara (Joe) Mullen of Pittsburgh, PA, Patty (Harry) Helmick of Vienna, WV, Nancy (Tony) Ambrogio of Pittsburgh, PA and Nina (Greg) Hellock of Richmond, OH; three grandchildren, Myra, Madison and Samara Pierson; and a great-grandchild, Jayden Powell.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 4-6 p.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Avenue, Mingo Junction, OH. At 6:00 p.m. there will be military honors by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad then his funeral service with Rev. John Ater, officiating. Private interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Steubenville, OH.
