Thomas J. Murphy, Sr.
Thomas J. Murphy, Sr., 88, of Mingo Junction, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at Weirton Medical Center.
Tom was a 4th Degree and charter member of the Mingo Knights of Columbus Council #4361, where he was a past Grand Knight from 1958-1959; and he was a member and past Ohio state president and national organizer of the Ancient order of Hibernians.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael Murphy; and four sisters.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Mary Ellen (McGuire) Murphy, whom he married on June 12, 1954; four sons, Thomas (Lori) Murphy, III of Bridgeport, Ohio, Patrick Murphy of Mingo Junction, Ohio, Charles (Elizabeth) Murphy of Houston, Texas and Christopher (Dianne) Murphy of Mingo; four daughters, Nancy (Bob) Petrella of Mingo, Kathleen (Jeff) Bayne of Cadiz, Ohio, Judith (Bill) Dunburg of Mingo; and Mary Agnes (Mark) Shaffer of Akron, Ohio; thirty three grandchildren; twenty eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Jean McMahon of Racine, Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Sunday, from 6 to 8 p.m. and also on Monday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction. There will also be visitation on Tuesday, from 9 a.m. until the time of his Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Mingo with Rev. Fr. James M. Dunfee and Rev. Fr. Timothy McGuire, as celebrants. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Steubenville.
On Monday there will be Rosary by the K of C at 6:45 and a Vigil Service at 7:45.
