Susie Bell "Gomer" Flaherty, 92, of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away Wednesday October 19, 2022 at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH.

She was born November 12, 1929 in Steubenville, OH, a daughter of the late Howard and Floy (Earley) Jones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter S. Flaherty, Jr.; a brother, Roy Jones; a sister, Betty Pesta; a great-grandson, Colt Spencer; and her loving dog, Tanner.

Susie worked at Scio Pottery; she was a nurses aide at the former Ohio Valley Hospital then a cook at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corp from 1980 until they closed. She was a member of Kolmont Community Church where she was a member of the Kum Joyne Us Class; she was a former JR Superintendent over children's Sunday School for about three years; taught Sunday School; and sang in the choir for a little while. She was voted Mother of the Year in 2009. She also attends Rosemont Chapel. Gomer was a member of the Mingo Senior Citizens; the Shanagu Club; Prime Time; and the Navy Bells Drum Corp. She enjoys her family and grandchildren; loves people and has never met a stranger; and she also likes to write poetry.

Surviving are a son, Ace (Patricia) Flaherty of Mingo Junction, OH; two daughters, Terrie (Doug) Spencer of Mingo Junction, OH and Sally (Frank) Lopatowicz of Akron, OH; a brother, Howard D. (Lupe) Jones of Santee, CA; two sisters, Selma Jones Thomas of Wintersville, OH; and Doris Plotts of Bloomingdale, OH; seven grandchildren, Kerry (Dennis) Fitzgibbons, Matthew Flaherty, Tracey Flaherty, Melissa (Chad) Brindley, Christopher (Molly) Lopatowicz, Jason Spencer and his companion Rena Rhodes, and Justin "JR" (Jamie) Spencer; and eight great-grandchildren, Ivory, Lily and Noah Spencer; Riley and Brody Fitzgibbons; Jaxton Brindley; and Grant and Gwyneth Lopatowicz.

Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction, on Monday October 24th from 11:00 a.m. until the time of her funeral services at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Randy Sells, officiating. Interment will follow New Alexandria Cemetery.
