Carolyn Sue "Susie" Nest, 67, of Brilliant, OH passed away Tuesday May 2, 2017 at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, Ohio, after a courageous two year battle with cancer.

She was born August 13, 1949 in Steubenville, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin F. "Jay" Barker, Jr; her mother. Helen Margaret "Peg" (Mackey) Gilchrist; her step-father, Donald Gilchrist; a brother, Ben Barker; and a sister, Mary Ellen Barker.

Susie worked at many places in the Ohio Valley, including being a nurses aide at the former Ohio Valley Hospital and she was also a Captain at Wackenhut. She was also a former Cub Scout mother and a volunteer for many organizations.

Surviving are her husband, Charles "Charlie" Nest, whom she married August 7, 1967; three children, Mickey Nest and his companion Kim McFarland of Brilliant, Ohio; Edwin (Amber) Nest of Wintersville, Ohio; and Stefanie R. Nest of Brilliant, Ohio; a brother, Bill Barker of Rocky Mount, NC; a sister, Connie Blackburn of Goodyear, AZ; two half-sisters, Debra Gilchrist of Brilliant, Ohio and Tammy (Jack) Blaker of Canal Fulton, OH; eight grandchildren, Charlie, Amanda, Emily, and Tori Nest, Ashley Taylor, Samuel and Matthew Nest and Johnny Haught; and over twenty children that she has fostered over the years.

Friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 and 6-9 at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant, where her funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Carol Ross-Irwin, officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville, Ohio.
