Obituary

Sue A. Edgerly, 70, of Mingo Junction, passed away peacefully Wednesday December 25, 2024 with her husband by her side.

She was born April 30, 1954, in Coshocton, OH, a daughter of the late Myron and Grace (Reese) Mathias.

Sue will be greatly missed by her husband, John A. Edgerly, whom she married on April 10, 1976; her mother and father-in-law, Carol and John Richard Edgerly; her siblings-in-law, Clay and Chris Edgerly, Richard and Mary Ann Edgerly, and Gary and Ruth Rees; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She touched many young minds during her 30 years of teaching, spending much of her career at Hills Elementary and Wintersville Elementary in the Indian Creek School District. Throughout her time as an educator, she formed lifelong friendships with many of her colleagues.

John and Sue cherished their time together, whether it was hiking, camping, watching the birds, or visiting Newfoundland—a place they returned to over 15 times, always finding peace in the outdoors. She could be found working in her garden during the warmer months of the year.

Sue had a steadfast love for Christmas, pouring her heart into creating special gifts for her loved ones to ensure every holiday was memorable. Over the years, she hand-crafted beautiful stockings, blankets, hats, and ornaments, each made with care and thoughtfulness. These gifts became treasured traditions that her family eagerly anticipated each year. Sue continued her generosity by using the extra yarn to make hats and scarves for the giving tree at St. Paul's Church.

Her personalized stockings were a family favorite, and she took great pride in ensuring everyone had one. Her homemade blankets were lovingly gifted to her great-nieces and nephews, while her hats were worn with pride during the chilly holiday season. The ornaments she carefully crafted found their place on Christmas trees, bringing Sue's festive spirit and love into every home.

Christmas wasn't just a season for Sue—it was a year-round labor of love, as she spent ten months preparing these thoughtful gifts. The memories she created and the traditions she established will continue to fill her family's hearts for many Christmases to come.

Beyond the holidays, Sue never missed the chance to celebrate birthdays or anniversaries, always ensuring her loved ones felt special. Family was at the center of her life, and her presence at Sunday dinners, always with a smile, was cherished.

Sue's passion for teaching and reading left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her. Her love of classic literature was passed down to her seven nieces and one nephew, as well as her thirteen great-nieces and nephews. Each book she gifted included a handwritten note, making her love and thoughtfulness a cherished keepsake for generations.
