Shirley J. Peterson, 93, of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away Tuesday June 7, 2022 in her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born April 5, 1929 in Sinnemahoning, PA, a daughter of the late Wardell and Armena (Crebs) Dexter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Peterson; a son, Dennis Peterson; two brothers, Lee and Kenny Dexter; and a sister, Fay Stunkard.

Shirley was a homemaker and loved to cook and take care of her family. She was a member of the Church of God, Worldwide Association, in Wheeling, WV.

Surviving are three daughters, Jeanne (Dan) Summy of Mingo Junction, OH, Diane (Chuck) Hayes of Freeport, OH and Pam (Ron) Sutton of Mingo Junction, OH; two sisters, Virginia (Frank) VanTassel of Durango, CO and Betty (Ernie) Hofmeister of Moneta, VA; nine grandchildren, Scott (Brandi) Summy, Mike (Rachel) Summy, Keith (Tracy) Peterson, Brian Peterson, Danny (Becky) St. Clair, Melissa (James) Grafton, Kristy (Jake) Monborne, Josh (Christina) Sutton and Jacob (Aubrie) Sutton; twenty great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and her beloved cat Sasha.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Valley Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Shirley.

Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction, OH on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. and also on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of her funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Zach Smith, officiating. Private interment will follow at Highland Hills Memorial Gardens in Follansbee, WV.
