Shelly Bateman, 76, of New Alexandria, OH, passed away Wednesday July 29, 2026 in the Valley Hospice Care Center North, Steubenville, OH.

She was born June 28, 1950, in Steubenville, OH, a daughter of the late Edward W. and Verna Faye (Hammack) Bateman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Amanda Jo Lyautey on February 1, 2008; and her brother, Allen Bateman.

Shelly graduated from Brilliant High School in 1968 and went on to earn an associate degree in Nutrition and Business from the former Jefferson Technical College. She devoted many years to helping others as a nutritionist with Jefferson County Head Start before retiring in 2014. Shelly was a faithful and active member of Kolmont Community Church, where she held several offices in both the Missionary Prayer Band and Sunday School, she also taught the Kum Joyn Us Class. She was also a member of the Mingo Women’s Club. In her free time, Shelly found joy in sewing and in baking cookies for weddings and Christmas, sharing her talents with family and friends.

Surviving are her sister, Polly Bateman of New Alexandria, OH; a sister-in-law, Vicki Bateman of Columbiana, OH; a daughter, Brenda (Mike) Haught of Marietta, OH; a son-in-law, Brian Lyautey of Conneaut Lake, PA; three grandchildren, Cody (Sarah) Wise, Brody Wise and Emily Wise; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received to celebrate Shelly’s life on Saturday August 8th at Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant from 11:00 a.m. until the time of her memorial service at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplin Jack Ernest, Evangelist, officiating. Private inurnment at New Alexandria Cemetery.
