Samuel Swan Aceto, 79, of Steubenville, Ohio, passed away Friday June 30, 2017, at the Ahuja Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, after fighting bravely for two months.
He was born December 31, 1937 in Steubenville, Ohio a son of the late Guerino and Martha (Driscoll) Aceto. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby and Jimmy Aceto.
Sam was a graduate of Catholic Central High School and served his country in the US Army. He retired after 40 years operating a tractor for the Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corp.
Survivors include his wife Linda (Greer) Aceto of Steubenville, OH; a son, Douglas (Dana) Aceto; three daughters, Jana (Jeffrey) Weibel, Kelly (Joseph) Carmine, all of Mingo Junction, OH and Olena (Michael) Moores of Cleveland, OH. Sam loved every moment spent with his 7 grandchildren, Brandon (Sarah), Britni, Justin, Jennifer, Jocelyn, Aaron and Olivia. He has one great-grandchild, Luca. Sam will also be missed by his surviving siblings, Geneva Rinehart, Betty Aceto, Frank (Nancy) Aceto, and Lynn (Tom) Givens; and also his sisters-in-law, Brenda (Sam) Marchetta, Debra Hale and Donita Rine; and many nieces and nephews.
Sam enjoyed his retirement, graciously welcoming anyone for a donut or three, a talk on the porch, or a song around the fire. Sam was always willing to help anyone in need and was much loved by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of family members who follow his example and burst into song at any moment.
Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave. on Wednesday from 1-3and 6-8, and also on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of his funeral services at Noon with Bishop Craig Greathouse, officiating. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery with Military Honors by the Ohio Valley Veterans Squad.
