IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard L.
"Rick" Miller, Jr.
April 27, 1963 – July 26, 2016
On Tuesday, July 26, 2016, in the home that he built on Chestnut Ridge, Richard Lee "Rick" Miller, Jr. passed away peacefully, at the age of 53, with his devoted wife, the Honorable Michelle Garcia Miller at his side along with his dutiful canine friend, Ralph. Rick, the owner of Rick Miller & Company Construction, was a friend to all and will be sadly missed by his loving family, dear friends and loyal customers.
Rick began his career in the construction business upon graduating from Buckeye North High School in 1981. He owned and operated Rick Miller & Company for over 25 years despite a spinal cord injury in 1990 that left him a paraplegic. With immeasurable strength and courage, he fearlessly continued to operate and build his business. As a lifelong member of Mingo Sportsman's Club and despite his disability, he continued to enjoy the outdoors. On Feb. 14, 2015, just prior to his diagnosis of brain cancer, he was recognized for taking one of the best-scoring bucks in the State of Ohio and awarded the Ohio Big Buck Award. As he did previously after his spinal cord injury, he again showed exemplary strength and courage, persevering and continuing his business with the help of his loyal employees and his father-in-law, Manuel "Butch" (Carol) Garcia.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Richard L. Miller Sr. He is survived by his beloved mother, Sylvia (Verhovec); loving and devoted wife of 15 years, Michelle; cherished step-daughter, Meredith Rohan; a sister Sherry (Frank) Cammer; nieces, Dana (Dave) DiCello, and Ashley Cammer; and great-nephew, Declan.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude and thanks to Dr. William (JoAnn) Johns, Rick's uncle, Bob (Minnie) Verhovec and his devoted friends who stayed by his side after his accident and again after his cancer diagnosis helping him to live life to the fullest each and every day up until his passing.
The hunting spots will be quiet this fall, but the spirit in the woods will be bigger.
In following with Rick's wishes private services were held at his home with Kenny Kourim, Jr. officiating.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Jefferson County Joint Vocational School Carpentry Program, 1509 County Highway 22A, Bloomingdale, Ohio 43910, for a scholarship award, in Rick's honor.
Final arrangements were entrusted to Wheeler Funeral Home.
