Ralph E. "Rudy" Coen, 79, of Brilliant, Ohio, passed away Monday June 20, 2016 at the Lancia Villa Vista Royale Nursing Home in Steubenville, Ohio.

He was born April 8, 1937 in Warnock, Ohio, a son of the late James and Myrtle (Strahl) Coen. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Charles R. Coen; six brothers; and two sisters.

Ralph was a steelworker retiring from the former Trans-Buckeye Sheet and Strip Steel Co.; and he also worked maintenance and security at Ohio Coal Co.  He was a member of the North River Avenue Christian Church in Toronto, Ohio and the Sons of the American Legion in Brilliant, Ohio.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Shirley (Owens) Coen, whom he married on March 21, 1956; a son, Jamie (Pam) Coen of Brilliant, Ohio; and six grandchildren, Seth, Hannah and Sarah Otto and Josh, Jacob and Jordan Hilliard.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant, where services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. John D. Ater, officiating. Interment will follow at New Alexandria Cemetery.

There will be a service by the Brilliant Legion and S.A.L. on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
