Phyllis J. "Phyl" Tilton, 91, of Smithfield, NC, formerly of Brilliant, OH, passed away Sunday January 23, 2022 at The Laurels of Forest Glenn in Garner, NC.

She was born May 20, 1930 in Iowa City, Iowa a daughter of the late Vernal and Hester H. (Watkins) Holman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl H. Tilton, whom passed in 1968; two brothers, John W. and Keith "Shack" Holman; and a sister, Helen Holman.

She was a retired sales clerk at the former Kauffmans Department Store in Steubenville, OH. She was also a former member of the Brilliant Methodist Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Annette (Darrin) DePoy of Clayton, NC; a sister, Sherry Kolopajlo of Marysville, OH; three grandchildren, Steven Poling, Melissa DePoy and Josh DePoy; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant, OH on Saturday January 29th from 11:00 a.m. until the time of her memorial service at noon with Rev. John Ater, officiating. Burial at 1:00 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery in Mingo Junction, OH. The family is asking that all visitors wear a mask at the funeral home.
