IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary V.
(Volosin) Evans
March 8, 1924 – January 9, 2025
Honoring Mary V. Evans
Mary V. Evans, a lifelong resident of Mingo Junction, Ohio, passed away at home on January 9, 2025, at the age of 100. She was born on March 8, 1924 in Vintondale, Pennsylvania, the fifth of ten children born to Charles and Mary (Fedor) Volosin, Sr.
In 1942 Mary graduated from Weir High, started working in the Stenographic Dept. at Weirton Steel and volunteered to be a Shell Inspector during WWII. In the fall of 1942, she met the love of her life Andy Evans Jr. at dance in Weirton, they married in 1944 and had 68 years of love and companionship until Andy's passing in March of 2012. Mary spent many years as a homemaker but helped with college expenses by working at the former Treasure Island Department Store in Steubenville, retiring after 15 years of service.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by siblings Charlie, Anna, John, George, Pete, Andrew, Joe and Mike. She is survived by her loving sister Helen Orenzuk, numerous nieces, nephews, her church family and friends.
Mary and Andy's legacy will carry on through their four children, Andrea (Terry) Bell, Nona (Kevin) Evans-Roark, Anicia Evans and Andrew (Melissa Elker) Evans; five grandchildren Matt Bell, Kevin (Holly McClain) Bell, Mareen (Russell) Walsh, Ashley (Matt) Illencik and McKenzie Evans; five great granddaughters Marliegh, Arya, Charlee Illencik, Silvia Walsh and Anacelia Parisi.
In her moments of leisure, Mary's time was filled with baking her famous apple pie, crafting stained glass, making Pysanki, tending her garden and flowers and compiling recipe and prayer books for her loved ones. At 95 she became quite good at coloring intricate pictures and icons, sharing them with family and friends. Her greatest happiness was in the simple pleasure of spending time with family and "Face Timing" with her daughter, son-in-law and great granddaughters.
Mary dedicated her life to God and devoted many hours a day in prayer. Her family knew she had a powerful relationship with God and she prayed for everyone in her daily devotions. She was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Weirton where she enjoyed singing in the choir, membership in the Ladies Altar Society and participating on the women's bowling team.
Her life embodied the virtues of love, kindness, generosity and caring for others. Her family remembers her as, "a beacon of strength, supporting them during joyous and challenging times." When asked her secret to a long life she answered, "faith, love of family and kindness."
Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave, Mingo Junction, OH on Wednesday January 15, 2025 from 6-8 PM with a Panikhida Service at 7:30 PM. There will be additional viewing at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 604 Colliers Way, Weirton, WV on Thursday January 16, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of her funeral service at 11:00 with Fr.
