Mary Ellen McGuire Murphy, 87, of Mingo Junction, Ohio, passed away Monday March 25, 2019 at Weirton Medical Center.

She was born January 9, 1932, in Mingo Junction, Ohio a daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude (Barrett) McGuire. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Murphy, Sr.; a son, Michael Murphy; two brothers, Charles and Robert "Sam" McGuire; a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Nagy; and a son-in-law, Jeff Bayne.

Mary Ellen was a retired Registered Nurse, working in the hospital, industrial and department of corrections nursing fields. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and the Catholic Womens Club and St. Francis Society at St Agnes. She was a member of the Wheeling Hospital Alumni and former member of Weirton Spinning Gears.

Surviving are four sons, Thomas (Lori) Murphy, Jr. of Bridgeport, Ohio, Patrick Murphy of Mingo Junction, Ohio, Charles (Elizabeth) Murphy of Houston, TX and Christopher (Dianne) Murphy of Mingo; four daughters, Nancy (Bob) Petrella of Mingo, Kathleen Bayne of Steubenville, Ohio, Judith (Bill) Dunburg of Mingo; and Mary Agnes (Mark) Shaffer of Akron, Ohio; thirty three grandchildren; forty four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 3-8 p.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction. On Friday there will be viewing at St. Agnes Catholic Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of her Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Fr. James M. Dunfee, celebrant.
