Leonard Earl Starr, 82, of Mingo Junction, Ohio, passed away Friday August 26, 2022 in the emergency room at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH.
He was born October 9, 1939 in Steubenville, OH a son of the late Hugh O. and Helen E. (Winski) Starr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four siblings, Martha June Wycoff, Patricia Lou Sellitti, Garnet Sue (Giggy) Kobily and Roland Starr.
Leonard retired in 2002 from Weirton Steel where he worked as a motor inspector. He graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1957. Leonard was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church; Mingo Knights of Columbus #4361; Steubenville PAC; Weirton Moose Lodge; Weirton Elks Lodge; and a social member of the Steubenville American Legion Post 33. He enjoyed being on Facebook, watching football, and doing riddles and puzzles with everyone he met.
Surviving are his wife, Phyllis (Kearney) Starr, whom he married on October 23, 1965; three children, Leonard H. (Angela) Starr of New Alexandria, OH, Jeffery Starr of Westerville, OH and Jannette (William) Starr-Bowen of Delaware, OH; six grandchildren, Dustin Starr, Scott (Elizabeth) Starr, Derek Starr, Hunter Starr, Slade Starr-Bowen, and Atticus Starr-Bowen; five great-grandchildren, Stella Starr, Auna Roe, Neena Starr, Kason Starr, and Ryker Starr; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction, OH. On Wednesday there will be visitation at St. Agnes Catholic Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of his Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Fr. James M. Dunfee, celebrant. Private burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Steubenville.
There will be a vigil service on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.
