John S. "Sonny" Vasich, 88, of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away Monday May 13, 2024 at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH

He was born September 7, 1935, in Mingo Junction, OH, son of the late S. Tasko and Anna Marie (Visyak) Vasich. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor L. (Rizzi) Vasich on January 22, 2011; two brothers, George and William Vasich; and two sisters, Karen Chuich and Mary Ann Mason.

John was an electronics mechanic; he began his career at the former WSTV9 in Steubenville then went on to work at Weirton Steel Corp until his retirement. Sonny was a longtime and faithful member of St. Andrew Orthodox church where he sang in the choir. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He also enjoyed going down to the Mingo Senior Center.

Surviving are two children, John A. Vasich of Mingo Junction, OH and Sharon (Troy) Parsons of Waterfall, PA; a brother, Harry (Joan) Vasich; a sister, Martha Trombetta; a brother-in-law, Guy Mason, all of Mingo Junction, OH; and two granddaughters, Corrina (Alex) Garlick and Kristina Parsons

Friends will be received at the St. Andrew Orthodox Church, on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of his funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with V. Rev. John Kopcha, officiating. Interment will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed in John's name to St. Andrew Church, 100 Summit Ave., Mingo Junction, OH 43938.
