John M. Butler, Sr., 72, of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away peacefully Sunday September 17, 2017 at U.P.M.C. Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.

He was born April 13, 1945 in Martins Ferry, OH, a son of the late Marshall R. and Dorothy M. (Bash) Butler. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty L. Butler on March 7, 2011; a daughter, Brenda Rinkes; a brother, Floyd "Butch" Butler; and two sisters, Mary Doughty and Dorothy Means.

John worked at the former Standard Slag as a Laborer and retired in 2000 from Olympic. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. John enjoyed, hunting, fishing, tinkering in the garage, and working in his garden. The most important thing in his life was his family, especially family gatherings.

Surviving are a daughter, Patty (Wayne) Blackwell of Brilliant, OH; a son, John M. Butler, Jr. of Mingo Junction, OH; two brothers, Richard (Karen) Butler of Rayland, OH and Kenneth Butler of Hartsville, SC; three sisters, Emma Proger of Mingo Junction, OH, Sally Harris of Rayland, OH and Grace (John) Meeker of Rayland, Ohio; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction, where his funeral services will take place on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) with Dr. Marc R. Tinstman, Minister, officiating.  Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Mingo Junction, OH, with Military Honors by the Brilliant American Legion Post 573.
