Janis Kay (Bickerstaff) Jones, 72, of Weirton, WV, formerly of Wintersville, OH and Mingo Junction, OH, passed away Saturday June 4, 2022 at the Weirton Medical Center, following a long illness.
She was born November 18, 1949 in Steubenville, OH, a daughter of the late Wilmer Wilson "Bill" and Mary Anita (McKinley) Bickerstaff. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Lou Bickerstaff on October 17, 2014.
Janis spent an active working life as the executive secretary of the Steubenville Country Club from which she retired after 46 years of service receiving special recognition for "outstanding performance" in the execution of her duties. Janis then went to work for Bolger Country Club Manor Nursing Home where she was a receptionist for five years' time.
Janis was the owner and founder of Dreamy Creations, an event decorating, linen providing, and creative custom basket making business which she displayed at Nana's Lunchbox and Granato's Deli both in Weirton, WV. Her motto was "If you can dream it, we can create it."
Janis was a member of the Weirton Alliance Church pastored by Rev. James Rhodes. She is also a member of the Womens Auxiliary of the Brooke-Hancock Gideons Camp and serves as recorder for the group.
Surviving are her husband, Daniel Jones, whom she married December 17, 2019; a step-son Kenneth Jones of Winslow, AZ; and other family members to include Linda Jones of Weirton WV, Ron & Jeri Williams of Belington WV, Carrie Williams of Belington, WV, David and Timothy Williams of Martinsburg, WV.
Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction, OH on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and also on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of her funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor James Rhodes, officiating. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Mingo. Following her graveside services there will be a luncheon at Weirton Alliance Church. Masks can be worn at the discretion of the attendee.
