Obituary

James "Jim" Morrocco, 78, of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away Wednesday October 9, 2024 at Wyngate Senior Living in Weirton, WV.

He was born October 12, 1945, in Steubenville, OH a son of the late Louis "Rummy" and Rose (Masterlasco) Morrocco. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Richard and John Morrocco.

Jim served his country in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam. He was a police officer in Mingo Junction for 26 years and even after his retirement he continued to serve his community by being a councilman for the village for many years. Along with his brothers, he was the former owner of Hillsboro Tavern in Mingo and he also owned House Art Renovations and Construction.

He will always be remembered by family and friends as devoted. Devoted to his faith, family, friendships and occupations, to everyone he knew and every challenge that he faced. He was a police officer by occupation but in heart and mind a "peace" officer. He knew the true meaning of hard work and dedication and he took pride and enjoyment from his accomplishments in projects and service to his community. He was highly respected and a voice of sound judgment and reason, not only for his family, but to others who needed a sounding board and help sorting out a situation. He truly was a rock….THE "Roc, and will be greatly missed by all who were blessed by his devotion, friendship and love.

Surviving are his loving and devoted wife, Karen (Douglas) Morrocco; a son, Jim Morrocco of Weirton, WV; a daughter, Jenee (Justin) Dixon of La Habra, CA; a sister, Phyllis Jordan of Ft. Myers, FL; five grandchildren, Christopher "CJ" (Jennie) Morrocco, Bailee (Jacob) Lohan, Alessandra Morrocco, Gavin Dixon and Grace Dixon; and four great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Wyngate for the excellent care they gave Jim while he was there.

Private services will be held at Wheeler Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. James Dunfee, officiating. Private interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Steubenville.
