Francis J. "Francie" DiLoreto, 93, of Mingo Junction, OH passed away Friday May 2, 2025 at the Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville, OH.
He was born in 1931 in Mingo Junction, Ohio, a son of the late Domenico and Virginia Giovannucci DiLoreto, both of Pratola Peliqna L'Aguila, Italy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death his beautiful wife of 69 years, Gertrude (DiCarlo) DiLoreto whom he married June 11, 1955 at St. Agnes Church. She joined him in heaven just 19 hours after his passing.
He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Theresa Venti of Steubenville, OH, Mafalda DiLoreto of Steubenville, OH, Vincenza DiLoreto of Mingo Junction, OH and Anita DelGallo of Mingo Junction, OH; two brothers, Ettore V. (Sue) DiLoreto of Steubenville, OH and Salvatore (Rose) DiLoreto of New Britain, CT; and the best mother and father-in-law anyone could ask for, Attilio and Amelia (Lugano) DiCarlo.
Francie entered the military during the Korean War in the Navy "Seabees" Battalion. He was a retired employee of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel with 44 years of service in the Maintenance Dept.
He loved being involved in church duties at St. Bernadette and St. Agnes Church. He was a server, cantor, lector and choir member. He loved decorating the churches with his good friends Ralph Candelaria and Nial Pashke, both deceased.
He took the responsibility of operating the St. Agnes School Bingo for 10 years with help from Sister June Smith and Sister Paulita Adrian. He spent 15 years coaching basketball for grades 4th-8th.
He was a member of the Mingo Knights of Columbus Council #4361 for 68 years. He was a past Grand Knight of Mingo Council from 1990-1992 and held the office of treasurer until 2016.
He entered political duties as a past councilman and president of council for the village of Mingo for 20 years.
He was a member of the Mingo American Legion Post #351. He was also responsible for organizing and having class reunions for his alma mater Mingo High School for 20 years for classes 1944-1950. Francis graduated from Mingo High School in 1949. Special thanks to schoolmate the late Bugs Bonafede for the help he gave Francie in time of need.
Francie is survived by three children, Diane Demayo of Egg Harbor Twp. New Jersey, Doreen (Douglas) Houser of Fort Lauderdale, FL; and David DiLoreto of Pittsburgh, PA; a sister, Josephine Chiodo of Fairport, New York; two grandsons, Anthony Demayo and Joseph Demayo both of Egg Harbor Twp., New Jersey; and many nieces and nephews.
He loved his town of Mingo Junction and all his friends and family of Mingo, and is looking forward to serving his God.
Friends will be received for visitation for both Francie and Gertie at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 204 St. Clair Ave., Mingo Junction, Ohio on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of their Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Fr. James M. Dunfee, celebrant. There will be a Rosary Service by the Mingo Knights of Columbus at 5:40 p.m. All are welcome to the chapel service at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Steubenville, OH on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with military honors by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
