Eugene "Sonny" Peck, 77, of Brilliant, OH, passed away Friday October 1, 2021 at home.
He was born November 20, 1943 in Steubenville, OH, a son of the late Albert Forrest Peck and Jessie Mae (Waugh) Peck. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Norann Nicholes.
Sonny's first job was washing cars at Matthews Chevrolet in Brilliant. He then went on to work at Satralloy where he was a crane operator. After that he worked at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel starting out at as a crane operator then retired in 2002 as a Fire and Safety Inspector. He was a Brilliant Blue Devil graduate class of 1964. Sonny was in the U.S. Army and served in the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. He was a member of the Brilliant Methodist Church; the Brilliant American Legion Post 573; the Steubenville Masonic Lodge #45 F&AM; the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; and the Shriners. He enjoyed watching the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Dallas Cowboys.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Mary (Homol) Peck, whom he married September 30, 1974; a son, Gene Peck of Wintersville; a granddaughter, Kelsi Peck; and two great-granddaughters, Lila and Lainey Buckley, and their father Elijah Buckley.
Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant, Ohio on Monday from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 pm. After viewing there will be Military Honors by the Brilliant American Legion then funeral services with Pastor Kevin Daugherty, officiating. Private interment at Holly Memorial Gardens, Colerain, OH.
