Dennis J. “Denny” Galownia, 72, of Wintersville, OH, passed away peacefully Friday June 19, 2026 at home.

He was born December 23, 1953 in Steubenville, OH, a son of the late Victor and Florence (Callahan) Galownia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Victor Galownia and Steven Galownia.

Denny retired in 2018 after 48 years of dedicated service at Weirton Steel Corporation, where he spent most of his career working in the hot mill. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and a devoted Ohio State fan. Denny especially enjoyed following his grandchildren’s sporting events, as well as professional sports, and could often be found happily tinkering around in his spare time.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanne (Kontra) Galownia, whom he married June 19, 1976; a son, Todd (Amber) Galownia of Mansfield, OH; a daughter, Jamie (Jesse) James of Wintersville, OH; two sisters, Florence (Henry) Smith of Mingo Junction, OH and Sandra Gibson of Boiling Springs, SC; a brother, Robert (Denise) Galownia of Mingo Junction, OH; and six grandchildren, Lucy Zadanski, Kylie Galownia, Landon Tingley, Georgie Zadanski, Tyler Galownia and Addison Thompson.

Friends will be received to celebrate Denny’s life at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction, OH on Monday June 29th from 3:00 p.m. until the time of his memorial service at 6:00 p.m. with Fr. Michael Gossett, officiating. Private entombment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Steubenville, OH.
