Cynthia J. “Cindy” Smearman, 77, of Brilliant, OH, passed away Wednesday April 22, 2026, at the Lancia Villa Vista Nursing Home in Steubenville, OH, with her family by her side.

She was born May 28, 1948 in Steubenville, OH, a daughter of the late Herbert W. and Elizabeth (Kovach) Cornelius. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Kovach; and a brother, Elmer Cornelius.

Cindy was employed as a clerk at the former Williams Drugstore and later at Buckmir Pharmacy in Brilliant. In addition, she worked for Piergallini Catering and also spent time working alongside her friends at the former Cookie Pops in Wheeling, WV. Cindy was a member of Meadowbrook Church of God. She treasured the friendships she made through her card club, where she was a faithful member for 47 years, and she looked forward to the time spent together. At home, she found great enjoyment in decorating and caring for her home, and she took pride in cooking from scratch for the people she loved.

Surviving are her husband, Timothy “Tim” Smearman, whom she married September 1, 1972; a daughter, Susan Ruiz of Brilliant, OH; a son, Chad (Sammi) Smearman of Wheeling, WV; and two grandchildren, Madison Ruiz and Devon Bailey.

Friends will be received to celebrate Cindy’s life at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant, OH on Monday April 27th from 3:00 p.m. until the time of her memorial service at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Dave Hennen, officiating.
