Charles R. Blanchard, Sr., 83, of Brunswick, OH, formerly of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away Friday June 29, 2018 at the Southwest Residential Hospice in Strongsville, OH.
He was born September 13, 1934 in Georges Run, OH, the son of the late Rexford and Pauline I. (Engler) Blanchard, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Rexford O. Blanchard, Jr. and Glenn Arden Blanchard, Sr.; and a sister, Norma Dean.
Charles retired in 1991 after working for 28 years as a stationary engineer for Ohio Edison Co. at the Stratton Plant. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Kingsland, GA and also the New Beginnings Baptist Church in Toronto, OH, where he was very active in church work. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge # 471 in Irondale, OH.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Barbara Ann "Pat" (Flesher) Blanchard, whom he married Feb. 18, 1957; a son, Charles R. (Donna) Blanchard, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; a daughter, Cheryl (Lowell) Strick of Middleburg Heights, OH; two sisters, Nancy (John) Carmen of Toronto, OH and Helen Edith Jarman of Brunswick, OH; and four grandchildren, Charles Blanchard, III, Tom Blanchard, Sedona Strick and Ethan Strick; and two great-granddaughters, Vanessa and Valerie Blanchard.
Friends will be received on Monday from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction, where his funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with, Dr. Lawrence Kimball, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at New Alexandria Cemetery.
There will be Masonic Services on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
