Catherine C. "Kitty" Kakascik, 81, of Mingo Junction, Ohio, passed away Sunday January 31, 2016, at Serra Manor in Weirton, WV.
She was born March 3, 1934 in Brilliant, Ohio a daughter of the late George and Sadie (Rouse) Cheffey. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Louis "Louie" Kakascik on February 14, 2008; a daughter, Carol Ann Indovina; a brother, George Cheffey; and two sisters, Mary Lou Gordon and Margie Brown.
Kitty was a homemaker, mother, and grandmother; she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and the Catholic Womens Club. She was a member of the Mingo Senior Citizens Center. In her early years she coached Mingo girls softball. She enjoyed camping, playing cards, and being a member of various card clubs in the area.
She is survived by a son, Lou Kakascik of Steubenville, OH; two daughters, Cathy Miller and Vicky (Wayne) Peckens both of Mingo Junction, OH; a son-in-law, Mark Indovina of Mingo Junction, OH; two sisters, Esther Mae Lucas of Martins Ferry, OH and Edith Pflugh of Rush Run, OH; and five grandchildren, Dawn and Amy Battocletti, Mark Indovina, Madeline and Abigail Miller.
Friends will be received on Monday from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction. On Wednesday Kitty will Lay in State at St. Agnes Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of her Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 10:00 a.m., with Fr. James M. Dunfee, celebrant. Interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Steubenville.
Memorial Contributions may be directed in Catherine's memory to the Tony Teramana Cancer Center, 3204 Johnson Rd., Steubenville, Ohio 43952.
There will be a Vigil service on Tuesday at 7:45 p.m.
