Wayne H. Pickford, Sr.

Wayne H. Pickford, 81, of Mingo Junction, OH passed away Saturday January 4, 2020 at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH.

He was born September 29, 1938 in Steubenville, OH, a son of the late Henry and Margaret (Brown) Pickford. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, William Pickford; and a sister, Beverly Pickford-Bell.

Wayne retired in 1994 from Weirton Steel Corp. He was Presbyterian by Faith and served his country in the Army National Guard. Wayne enjoyed coaching baseball for 30 years winning many championships. He was an avid Big Red, Ohio State, Cleveland Browns and Indians fan. 

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Norma (Potenzini) Pickford, whom he married Aug. 2, 1958; a daughter, Barbara (Tom) Ely of Mingo Junction, OH; two sons, Wayne (Sue) Pickford of Gahanna, OH and David Pickford of Mingo Junction, OH; two brothers, Larry (Rose) Pickford of Wintersville, OH and Bill (Debbie) Pickford of Steubenville, OH; five grandchildren, Chris (Lisa) Forrester, Courtney (Milo) Sanders, David Knezovich, Jack Pickford, and Anthony Pickford; and three great-grandchildren, Noah, Madelyn and Myla.

Friends will be received on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction, OH, where his funeral services will be held on Tuesday at Noon, with Rev. Fr. James M. Dunfee, officiating. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Mingo Junction.
