Wayne Blackwell, 78, of Brilliant, OH passed away Tuesday September 11, 2018 in the emergency room at Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, OH.
He was born September 9, 1940 in Parkersburg, WV, a son of the late William T. and Dorothy (Hall) Blackwell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Cleo Blackwell; three brothers, Marion Vanscoy, William and Denver Blackwell; and a sister, Wanda Burdett.
Wayne retired in 2008 from Weir Cove Moving and Storage (PI&I) where he was a truck driver. He served his country in the U.S. Army and attended the Brilliant Christian Church when he was able. He enjoyed piddling around in his shed and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of almost 30 years, Patricia (Butler) Blackwell, whom he married September 24, 1988; five children, Jerry Blackwell, Wendel Blackwell, Lori Wherry Barker, Richard (Joanie) Blackwell and Amber (Mike) Pope; his special nephew and caregiver, Justin Rinkes; four brothers, Jack (Judy) Blackwell, Gary (Shirley) Blackwell, Michael (Carol) Blackwell and Howard (Debbie) Blackwell; a sister, Jean Flanagan; good friend who kept an eye on Wayne, Nancy Burch; fifteen grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant, on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until the time of his funeral services at 7:00 p.m., with Rev. John D. Ater, officiating. There will also be military honors by the Ohio Valley Veterans Squad after his service.
