Virginia L. "Ginny" Hickman

Virginia “Ginny” Hickman, 89, of Rayland, OH, passed away Sunday October 27. 2019 at home, with her family by her side.

She was born December 21, 1929 in McWhorter, WV, a daughter of the late Joshua B. Jacobs and Willa (Bowers) Keener. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Alva L. “Fred” Hickman in 2008; a son, Alva Hickman, Jr in 1948; six brothers, Glenn, Fleming, and Donald Jacobs, Charles Smith, Marvin and James Keener; a great-grandson, Sean Moorehead in 1994; a great-granddaughter, Lillian Rose Hickman in 2018; and a daughter-in-law Debra Hickman in 2011.

Ginny was a homemaker. She enjoyed raising a big family, cooking and baking.

Surviving are her ten children, Robert (Cheryl) Hickman of Garrett, IN, John Hickman of Rayland, OH, Charles Todd Hickman of Butler, IN, Fred “Butch” (Jackie) Hickman of Auburn, IN, Steven Hickman who resided in the home with Virginia, Mary Catherine “Cathy” Hickman of Butler, IN, Lois (Jim) Stephen of Wintersville, OH; Sandra (John) Thwaites of Garrett, IN, Paula (Donald) Castner of Steubenville, OH, Joyce (John) Cutri of Empire, CO, a sister, Mary Bell of West Union, WV; a brother, Howard Dale Jacobs of Smithburg, WV; twenty three grandchildren, forty nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant on Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. and also on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of her funeral services at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Todd Miller, officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens in Colerain, OH.
