Ronald A. “Ron” Mitchell, 82, of Mingo Junction, Ohio, passed away suddenly on Wednesday July 10, 2019, at home.
He was born March 8, 1937 in Steubenville, Ohio, a son of the late George and Sarah (Martin) Mitchell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Sonny, William and Reginald Mitchell.
Ron retired in 1991 after 37 years from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corp, where he worked as a general turn foreman for the Blast Furnace Dept. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, where he sang in the Choir; the Tri-State Winemakers Club; the Polish Athletic Club; and was an avid fisherman. He was also a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers and Steubenville Big Red Fan; and he enjoyed keeping the neighborhood birds and deer fed.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Mary Alice (Ferroni) Mitchell, whom he married on April 13, 1954; a son, Ronald G. Mitchell and his wife Marilyn Windust of Phoenix, AZ; and a sister, Mary “Tillie” Manack of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction. On Monday there will be viewing from 9:00 a.m. until the time of his Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. James M. Dunfee, celebrant. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Mingo Junction.
On Sunday there will be a Vigil service at 5:45 p.m.
