Charles J. Williams, 89, of Brilliant, Ohio, passed away Saturday May 12, 2018 at home surrounded by his family.
He was born October 5, 1928 in Wellsburg, WV, son of the late Charles J. and Mary L. Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 46 years, Barbara Williams; a son, David Williams; a brother, Paul Williams; and two sisters, Kathleen Bechtel and Beverly Barker.
Chuck graduated from Steubenville High School in 1946 and from The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy in 1950. He served his country in the U.S. Army. In 1954 he opened Williams Drug Store in Brilliant where he was the pharmacist and owner for 37 years. Chuck was a very active member of his community and took a strong interest in Brilliant. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Brilliant where he served as an elder for many years. He was also one of the oldest members of the Brilliant American Legion Post 573, having recently received his 60 year certificate.
Surviving are his wife of 19 years, Jo Ann (Snodgrass) Farrington Williams; a son, Doug (Laraine) Williams of Bristol, TN; two daughters, Carol Bush of Granville, OH and Nancy Williams and her husband Jim Casebolt of Evergreen, CO; a step-daughter, Lisa (Dave) Thiel of Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchildren: Justin Bush, Adrienne (Ryan) Burke, Ryan Bush, Dana Williams, Logan Williams, Sydney Thiel and Ally Thiel; and a great-grandson, Owen Burke.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant. On Wednesday friends will also be received at the Presbyterian Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of his funeral services at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Kenn Sickle, officiating. Interment will follow at the New Alexandria Cemetery, with military honors by the Brilliant American Legion Post 573.
