Albert F. “Big Al” Brandon, 86, of New Alexandria, OH, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 8:50 a.m. on Friday January 8, 2021 at the Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville, OH.
He was born on January 7, 1935 in Bellaire, OH to the late Floyd Brandon of Newton Falls, OH and Eva Edmiston of Smithfield, Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Vicki Brandon; two brothers, Floyd (Rose) Brandon and Francis (Alice) Hendershot; five sisters, Gladys (Stewart) Gale, Irene (Bill) Pasco, Viola (Bud) Fellows, and Hilda Hudy and four nephews.
He was a member of Kolmont Church where he served several terms as a deacon. He was an active member of the Men’s Fellowship and Men’s Sunday School Class. He was honored to be selected Man of the Year in 1999. He was a member of the Smithfield F&AM Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Hillbilly Degree. He was a member of the Polish Club and Mingo Sportsman Club for over 50 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1958 at Ellsworth A.F.B., Rapid City, S.D. and Dyess A.F.B. in Abilene, Texas. He was employed by the Vanadium /Foote Mineral/ Satralloy Corporations in Mingo, Ohio. He was active in Union Local 5664 and served as financial secretary for several terms. He organized the Old Timers Reunion Picnic for his former co-workers. He loved being at the church, visiting with people and he never knew a stranger.
He is survived by his wife, Alice (Loobey) Brandon of New Alexandria, OH whom he married May 19, 1956 in Rapid City, SD; one son, Wade Brandon and his wife Tracy; and two grandchildren, Connor and Rachel Brandon all of Streetsboro, OH; a sister, Winnie (Leon) Daniels in Oregon; and two sister-in-law’s, Reba Loobey and Cleo Loobey in South Dakota; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Home 712 Third St., Brilliant, OH where his services will be held and on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. with Evangelist Jack Ernest, officiating. Interment will follow at New Alexandria Cemetery with military honors by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
Masks are required and visitors are asked not to linger after they pay their respects.
