William A. “Bill” “The Legend” Saffle, 63, of Mingo Junction, Ohio passed away suddenly Monday June 27, 2016 in the emergency room at Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, Ohio.

He was born March 3, 1953 in Steubenville, Ohio, a son of the late William M. and Clara Ann (Odoardi) Saffle.

Bill retired after 41 years from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. where he was a tractor operator. Known as “The Legend”, he took care of the Mingo Pool; ran the committee for the upcoming Mingo High School 1970’s reunion; and in his earlier years taught swimming lessons to children with Autism.

Surviving are his two children, Shelby Moorehead and Michael (Renee) Saffle, both of Wintersville; five cherished grandchildren whom were his life, Caden and Jacob Saffle, Theresa and Stone Harding and Isabella Bowser; a great-granddaughter, Elionna Harding; three sisters, Sandra L. “Sandy” Saffle, of Mingo Junction, Clara (Keith) Pierce of Follansbee, WV, and Susan (Dr. Al) Leon of Mingo Junction; many nieces and nephews; and the mother of his children, Lesley Patterson of Wintersville, Ohio. 

Friends will be received to celebrate “The Legend’s” life at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave. Mingo Junction, on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of his memorial service at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jerry Ernst, officiating.
