Theodore J. "Ted" Matthews, Jr.

Theodore J. “Ted” Matthews, Jr., 55, of Brilliant, Ohio, passed away Friday January 27, 2017, from a battle with colon cancer, in the comfort of his home under the loving care of his wife and family.

He was born March 2, 1961 in Steubenville, OH, the son of the late Nancy L. (Fisher) Matthews and Theodore J. Matthews, Sr. of Brilliant, OH.

Ted worked as a driver at Matthews Motors in Brilliant, Oh and was a Christian by Faith. He was a man of few words. He loved music, from playing the guitar to listening and watching his favorite bands. Ted’s family could rely on him to be one phone call away.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Merri Michael Matthews, whom he married on August 18, 1980; three sons whom he loved very much, T.J. (Katy) Matthews of Naples, NY, Chase Matthews of Brilliant, OH and Evan (Mary Kate) Matthews of Bloomfield, NJ; a brother, Joe (Diane) Matthews of Brilliant, OH; a sister, Cindy Martin of Brilliant, OH; and two grandchildren, Zeke and Elise Matthews.

Friends will be received on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant, where services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Chaplain Dana Campbell, officiating. Interment will follow at New Alexandria Cemetery.
