Sophia D. Sabol

Sophia D. Sabol, 106, of Georges Run, Ohio passed away Wednesday April 13, 2016 at the Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville, Ohio.

She was born March 13, 1910 in Crabtree, PA, a daughter of the late John and Mary (Yurko) Farbarik. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Peter Sabol; a son, Thomas Sabol, and seven brothers and sisters.

Sophia was a homemaker and the oldest living member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. She was the first president of St. Bernadette’s Catholic Women’s Club and was a member of the Mingo Art League, studying with Emma Hayhurst. Her oil paintings were shown at the College of Steubenville.

She also loved flowers and nature and was an active member of the Steubenville-Wintersville Garden Club.

Sophia attributes her long life to a deep love of God and family and friends.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ann Mucha, with whom she resided; six grandchildren, Robert Mucha, Richard (Jackie) Mucha, Suzanne (David) lisham, Cindy (Jeff) Smith, Kathy Sabol, and Michelle Sabol; and a sister, Margaret DiCesare.  

Friends will be received on Saturday at St. Agnes Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of her Memorial Mass with Liturgy at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Fr. James M. Dunfee, as celebrant. Private interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Steubenville.
